Not exactly as companies or brands, but they refer to the same sleeper-train service in most traveller searches. Watania is the older name. Abela is the current operator and brand used for the overnight sleeper trains connecting Cairo, Luxor and Aswan.

Why do both Watania and Abela appear online?
The sleeper train changed operating management, but many travel blogs, videos and reviews were never updated. The older website address also continues to be associated with the service while displaying Abela branding.
This makes it look as though Watania and Abela are two competing sleeper trains. They are not two different tourist services that you must compare.
Which name is current in 2026?
Abela is the current name passengers should expect to see across the operator's website and mobile booking application, which provides sleeper-berth reservations, timetable enquiries, prices and access to previous bookings.
Are old Watania sleeper-train reviews still useful?
Older Watania reviews can still help travellers understand the basic cabin layout and overnight route. However, details about stations, booking systems, prices, cabin refurbishment and the operating brand may be out of date.
