Single cabins sell out faster than double cabins. If you are travelling solo and want a private cabin, add an extra week to the lead times above.

Booking tips that actually matter

Book Train 86 first

Train 86 is the most popular departure, with the best timing and the most modern carriages. It sells out faster than other trains on the same route. If Train 86 is not available on your date, check the other departures before giving up.

Single cabins vs double cabins

Travelling solo? You have two options. A single cabin gives you a private berth to yourself. A double cabin booked solo means Abela will pair you with a same-gender passenger, though outside peak season many solos find themselves alone in a double anyway. Single cabins cost more but sell out faster.

The safest approach: check live availability above, book immediately if seats are showing low, and do not wait until the day before your flight to Egypt.

What if my preferred date is sold out?

Check dates one or two days either side, as trains do not sell out uniformly across the calendar. A date that shows full on a Tuesday may have availability on Wednesday. You can also check the alternative trains on the same date as some run later in the evening with more capacity.

Elite cabins last longer

Standard cabins sell out before Elite cabins. If you are close to your travel date and Standard is gone, Elite is worth checking. The price difference is around £30 per person and you get wider berths and an upgraded meal.

The simple answer

Travelling October to April: book 3 to 4 weeks ahead. Travelling May to September: 1 to 2 weeks is usually fine. Travelling over Christmas, New Year or Easter: book as early as possible, these dates sell out fastest of all.

When in doubt, book now. Seats do not get easier to find closer to the date.
